There’s a new Double Dragon game! It’s called Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, and it’s out this summer on PC and all consoles.
This new Double Dragon is developed by Secret Base, the studio behind the highly anticipated multiplayer horror beat’em up Streets of Red: Devil’s Dare Deluxe. It features new playable characters from Double Dragon’s legendary duo Billy and Jimmy Lee, as well as what has been described as a “modern celebration” of the beat ’em-up genre.
There’s co-op (couch co-op for launch, online co-op later this year), 13 playable characters, and pixel art visuals. Trailer is below:

“New York City in 199X: The city has been devastated by nuclear war. Its citizens fight for survival as riots, crime, and chaos ensue. The streets flood. Terrorized criminal gangs that vie for dominance . Unwilling to tolerate these conditions no longer, young Billy and Jimmy Lee took it upon themselves to reclaim their town.”
Roguelite elements come from the dynamic mission select function. Here, the order in which you choose your missions affects the mission’s length, number of enemies, and difficulty. You spend the cash you earn at the end of each stage to unlock upgrades for your chosen characters or save up.
If you die, you can spend the rest of the cash on tokens that permanently unlock additional characters and bonuses between seasons. Or, you can buy Continue with your tokens to continue racing. There is also a permadeath mode.
