A demo for the innovative first-person puzzle game Viewfinder is now available on Steam.
The first game from Scottish developer Sad Owl Studios, Viewfinder is a puzzle game that plays with perspective.
In the early stages, players must search around the world for photographs that they then place and take steps to progress. Afterwards, they are equipped with a camera to take pictures of the surroundings, which can then be placed and moved to solve puzzles. Watch the trailer below to see it in action.
I recently played a demo of the Viewfinder at WASD in London, and it was one of the most intriguing games at the show.
The use of photography allows for multiple solutions to the puzzles. For example, one puzzle required me to collect batteries to fire up a teleporting machine; A battery was placed on a pedestal that was difficult to reach, but photographs of the surrounding environment provided several ways to obtain the battery.
The game also plays with art styles, as the images discovered range from drawings to pixels.
Make one mistake and you can rewind time to correct it.
I’ve dived into the new Steam demo and it appears to be similar to what I played – I can totally recommend downloading it and giving it a try!
Viewfinder currently has a 2023 release date and is headed to PC and PS5. The demo is available for free on Steam.
