Oxenfree 2: Lost Signal, the long-awaited follow-up to developer Night School Studio’s acclaimed supernatural adventure Oxenfree, finally has a release date and will launch on July 12 for Switch, PlayStation, PC and mobile.
Announced back in 2021 and initially expected to launch in the same year, Oxenfree 2 takes place five years after the memorable events of the original game. This time, the story focuses on new protagonist Riley Powerly, an environmental researcher who returns to her small coastal hometown of Camena which, as you can already guess, is becoming plagued by mysterious radio signals.
Making matters worse, there’s a cult on the loose attempting to open a portal between worlds, but Riley has some useful tricks to help her investigate. A new walkie talkie means that conversations can take place between characters throughout Camena even when they are not together, with dialogue and dialogue options, for example, affecting how events happen.
“Forge a deep friendship with an old acquaintance from high school or choose to ignore a lost fisherman in need,” Night School suggests. “Your choices affect who Riley becomes, your relationships, and the story options available to you at every turn.”
Oxenfree 2: Lost Signal – which serves as a standalone story despite ties to the 2016 original – impressed Eurogamer’s Christian Donlan, who got a little demo from the now-Netflix-owned Night School last year. Everyone will finally be able to experience its terrifying plot when it launches for PlayStation 5, PS4, Switch, PC via Steam and mobile via Netflix on July 12th.
