A Pacific-wide tsunami alert was issued Friday after a 8.1-magnitude earthquake struck close to New Zealand’s distant Kermadec islands, following on from two highly effective quakes earlier.
New Zealand ordered coastal evacuations because the Pacific Tsunami Warning Middle warned waves of as much as three metres (10 toes) had been attainable within the Pacific area nations of Vanuatu and the French territory of New Caledonia.
