Cast your mind back to October last year and you might remember footage A self-proclaimed “body cam-style” game has been doing the rounds that actually looked almost too realistic to be real — if you know what I mean.
However, fast forward six months and we now have an official trailer for the game. It’s called Unrecorded, and comes from a developer known only as Drama.
Unrecord is described as a “single-player FPS that tells the story of a tactical police officer from the perspective of his body camera”. You can see what it looks like for you below — and the realism of it makes for a little uncomfortable viewing.
The developer says that Unrecorded will see players “working to solve a complex case”, and that will require “both tactical and detective skills to succeed”.
Meanwhile, the programmers and co-creators of Unrecord have been sharing more details about the game on Twitter.
Alexandre Spindler has stated that the game is “not a rail shooter or an FMV”. Additionally, it is not a VR game, with Spindler showing the gameplay footage shown in the trailer using a mouse and keyboard. This is not even a scam, about which many people raised concerns.
“Actually, it seems like comparing Uncharted’s graphics to reality is flattering, but luckily, we know that a game that focuses on the gameplay and universe first, that’s all,” the developer wrote in a new FAQ post. But we mainly focus on that.”
“Given the high production costs of a video game and our global reputation at stake, if Unrecorded were a scam, it would be a blockbuster scam. Therefore, it logically isn’t one. We cannot verify any actual video or external renderings.” Do not use for unreal. Engine for creation of unrecorded. Unrecorded is real(un).”
I often see that question come up, this is not a rail shooter or FMV, this is actually an FPS and these images are from real-time gameplay, not pre-rendered. Thank you all for the feedback. https://t.co/YSMwicss6i
