Respawn CEO Vince Zampella has revealed that he would love to see a third Titanfall game “at the right time”.
In an interview with Barron’s and spotted by PC Gamer, Zampella admitted that the studio did not have “exact dedicated plans” and was “not currently working on anything” tied to a new Titanfall game, “It’s a beloved franchise for Gams and also for [Respawn developers],
Zampella said, “I hate saying yes, then people latch on to it, and skewer you when it doesn’t come.” “But I would love to see that this is the real answer.
“It has to be the right thing. It’s a very beloved franchise for the fans and for us as well. If it’s not the right time in time, the right idea, then it doesn’t mean anything.”
Zampella further reflected on the difficulty of pleasing longtime Titanfall fans and those who have only experienced the world through the spin-off battle royale Apex Legends, which is set in the same universe.
“How do you do something that doesn’t confuse people who are fans of Apex but aren’t necessarily fans of Titanfall yet?” Zampella added. “It’s a difficult question to answer.”
A group of former Respawn Entertainment developers recently teamed up to form the new “remote first” studio Wildlight Entertainment.
Wildlight is founded by Dusty Welch and Jason McCord (who will serve as CEO and Design Director, respectively), with Chad Grenier serving as Studio Head and Game Director. Grenier was previously game director on Respawn’s hugely popular battle royale shooter Apex Legends before leaving the studio late last year after more than a decade at the helm.
Grenier is joined by another high-profile former Respawn team member, Mohammed Alavi, whose design credits include Infinity Ward’s original Modern Warfare series and Titanfall.
