The folks behind Skywind have released an impressive new gameplay video.
Skywind is an ambitious mod project that recreates Bethesda’s much-loved 2002 role-playing game The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind in the Skyrim engine.
Work on Skywind has been going on for years now, but this latest video below shows that the project is progressing well. It features 20 minutes of new footage, includes new world locations, creatures, environment assets, voice lines, item descriptions, user interface improvements and spells, and revolves around a quest from the original game called Necromancer in Mavia.
In the gameplay, we get a good look at exploration, combat, and especially, spellcasting in the Molag Amur region, as the player makes his way to the top of a tower and has a showdown with a mischievous necromancer.
The team said, “It takes an enormous amount of work and coordination to put together videos like Necromancer at Mavia, but they also drive development as we struggle to implement and polish every aspect of the video. ”
“Still, some curious viewers may notice gaps – missing dialogue, floating objects, or placeholders from Skyrim. There is room for additional contributors in many different roles on our website, and we’re looking to bring more team members up to speed.” Always eager to welcome you back. We’re on our way.”
Skywind has no set release date, and there’s a lot more work to do. “Skywind is a labor of love, and we take every opportunity to share our progress with the public,” said the team.
“We are keen to release as soon as we have something stable and playable, but a game this large is a monumental task, and the progress of a volunteer team is entirely dependent on the free time of our contributors.
“This makes it impossible to predict when we’ll be finished, and since a missed release date would be a disappointment to everyone, our mantra is ‘when it’s done it’ll be done’. Progress marches!”
Morrowind is a game I’ve often thought would do well with an official remake. Alas, Bethesda seems busy with the upcoming Starfield, The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5.
