Naughty Dog has released a fourth update for its widely lambasted PC port of The Last of Us Part 1, promising “framerate optimizations” and more among its various bug fixes and tweaks.
As you may recall, The Last of Us Part 1 launched for PC in late March after a 25-day delay designed to ensure it was “in the best possible shape.” Will start Unfortunately, the reality of the release didn’t live up to that promise, and PC buyers on Steam began reporting a number of technical issues including inconsistent frame rates, regular crashes, stuttering, long load times, and poor optimization – earning the port mostly negative ratings. Since then, Naughty Dog has released three patches aimed at addressing the PC port’s various problems, and those fixes have gradually helped lower The Last of Us Part 1’s Steam rating to a marginally less disastrous mixed. Naughty Dog, however, acknowledges that there is still work to be done, noting that – along with porting partner Iron Galaxy – “looking closely at reports from players” and “additional CPU optimizations, framerate, and resolution improvements in upcoming patches”. and releasing texture fidelity improvements”.
Today’s patch notes detail everything from game-wide CPU and GPU optimizations to crash fixes and more informative graphics menu descriptions. The full list of changes can be found below:
- Optimized CPU and GPU usage throughout the game
- Improved texture fidelity and resolution at in-game low and medium settings
- Improved graphical fidelity on in-game low graphics presets, notably water surfaces no longer appear black
- Fixed a crash during shader creation
- Fixed a crash when exiting the main menu
- Fixed crash when dying after battle
- Fixed an issue where, on first boot, players might experience long wait times for the game to load
- Added an option for players to lock and unlock performance stats simultaneously in the HUD menu (Options > HUD)
- Added description in graphics menu to better explain when some settings may affect others (Options > Display)
- Added a texture streaming rate setting (Graphics > Texture Settings)
- Fixed an issue where skipping a cutscene during a critical load could cause the game to hang
- Fixed an issue where the shader load warning would not appear when relaunching the game
- Updated VRAM bar to more accurately reflect OS+app usage
- Fixed an issue where the screen reader read values for locked settings that could indicate that the same locked settings were active
- Fixed an issue where aiming down when using keyboard and mouse (KBM) could increase camera sensitivity
- Refined the handling of some commands assigned the same KBM keybinding
- Fixed Brazilian Portuguese, Croatian, Dutch, Finnish, French, Greek, Hungarian, LATAM Spanish, Spanish, Thai, and Traditional Chinese translations for several menu options
- [Ultrawide Displays] Fixed the rangefinder reticle position for the bow
