A day after word of its US air date aired, the Twisted Metal live-action TV series has received its first trailer.
More accurately, today’s first look is being referred to as an “official teaser,” which probably does a better job of keeping your expectations in check. It’s short on action and not really anything you might imagine when you hear the word Twisted Metal, but it features Anthony Mackie in his starring role.
Mackie, you may remember, plays a “motor-mouthed outsider” offered a chance at a better life so long as he can deliver a mysterious package in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. We don’t get to see that much in today’s teaser, but there is a vaguely amusing musical bait and switch, a bit of aerial footage, and thankfully — given the video game series’ vehicular combat roots — One shot a car with some guns stuck in it.
And, as the brief trailer comes to a close, we get a tiny tease of the Twisted Metal television show’s take on the post-apocalypse, concluding with the tiniest glimpse of the video game’s iconic, clown-faced antagonist Sweet Tooth. Is. , here voiced by Arrested Development’s Will Arnett.
Cast-wise, Mackie and Arnett will join a cast including Stephanie Beatriz, Thomas Haden Church and Neve Campbell, who are working on a script written by Cobra Kai’s Michael Jonathan Smith, who also serves as showrunner on the Twisted Metal series. are working.
Twisted Metal is set to premiere in the US on July 27 via the Peacock subscription service. There’s no word yet on international, but Peacock is available in the UK via Sky and Now, suggesting it will eventually appear over here.
